For more than three decades, Literacy Lubbock has provided adult literacy and education programs to Lubbock and the surrounding communities. Until recently, Lubbock Area United Way partnered with Literacy Lubbock to achieve this mission, but as of September 15, 2024, this partnership will end.
Despite this change, Literacy Lubbock remains steadfast in its mission. "While we are saddened by the loss of financial support from the Lubbock Area United Way, our commitment to literacy remains unwavering," said Julie Laughlin, Executive Director of Literacy Lubbock. "We are dedicated to providing essential educational resources to adults in need. We believe literacy is a fundamental right and a crucial building block for a better life."
Literacy Lubbock's mission is to foster literacy and empower individuals through education. The organization offers a wide range of services, including adult reading programs, support for overcoming dyslexia, English as a second language classes, GED test preparation, and early childhood and family literacy initiatives. Since 2016, Literacy Lubbock has helped nearly 3,000 individuals improve their literacy and education levels and has distributed over 50,000 children’s books across the South Plains.
The ongoing success of Literacy Lubbock is made possible through the generous support of volunteers and donors. For more information about Literacy Lubbock and how to get involved, please visit www.literacylubbock.org or contact Julie Laughlin at 806-775-3636.
